THRDC MEETS WITH THE MINISTRY OF CONSTITUTIONAL AND LEGAL AFFAIRS

On May 7th, 2024, THRDC had a crucial meeting with Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana, Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs in Dodoma along with Ministerial Directors of Departments Including Adv. Richard Kilanga (Human Rights); Adv. Emmanuel Mbega (Human Rights) and Edith Shekideye ( Legal Aid Services Unit).

From THRDC Adv. Onesmo Olengurumwa, THRDC National Coordinator led our delegation alongside with Adv. Nuru Maro, Coalition Advocacy Officer. This session was held at Bunge premises to strategize on government involvement in human rights mechanisms and ensuring protection for Human Rights Defenders in Tanzania.

Our agenda was packed with discussions on vital topics including:

1️⃣    Finalizing the National Human Rights Action Plan Two (NHRAPII)

2️⃣   Active participation in regional and international human rights mechanisms.

3️⃣    Advancing the Proposed Human Rights Defenders Policy

4️⃣    Establishing a standing inter-ministerial committee for coordinated state reporting.

5️⃣    Promoting human rights education nationwide.

We wholeheartedly express our appreciation to Hon. Dr. Pindi Chana for endorsing the development of an action plan aimed at implementing the five areas of collaboration to enhance the human rights landscape in our nation.

Hon. Chana also underscored the importance of expediting human rights education to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against children in Tanzania. Furthermore, Hon. Chana has affirmed the government's ongoing partnership with THRDC to bolster the nation's human rights landscape.

We appreciate and commends continued efforts of the Government of URT Tanzania towards the improvement of human rights situation and engagements with CSOs in the country. We're thrilled about the collaboration possibilities to push forward the work we've initiated!
