THRDC EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION

The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) has signed a one-year contract worth seventy thousand US dollars ($70,000), equivalent to one hundred and seventy-five million Tanzanian Shillings (Tsh 175,000,000), with the American Bar Association from the United States as part of its projects on freedom of expression to improve the situation of Human Rights Defenders in the country.

The agreement was officially signed on April 11, 2024, and its implementation will commence at the end of this month, ending on May 31, 2025.

These funds will be used to achieve the main goal of the project, which is to promote freedom of expression in the country, along with the following specific objectives:

1. Strengthening the capacity and collaboration of media, civil society organizations, and legal sector stakeholders in advocating for the right to freedom of expression.

2. Increasing understanding and support of policy makers for policies and legal systems that uphold democracy by valuing freedom of expression.

The beneficiaries of this project will be human rights defenders, including journalists and media owners, human rights activists, civil society organizations, and other human rights advocacy groups.

The American Bar Association has been collaborating with THRDC since 2020 in implementing various coalition projects as major stakeholders in human rights in Tanzania.
