The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC- Zanzibar) in collaboration with the American Bar Association (ABA), Zanzibar University(ZU) and the State University of Zanzibar(SUZA) have jointly conducted the public lecture on the role of universities in promoting civic empowerment with the main focus on the area of freedom of expression.

The lecture has been conducted today November 29, 2022 at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) located at Kilimani. The lecture was officiated by the Vice Chancellor of SUZA Hon. Dr. Mohamed Makame. The lecture brought together students from Zanzibar University (ZU), the State University of Zanzibar(SUZA) as well as journalists from Zanzibar.

During the opening remarks the Vice Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar Hon. Dr. Mohamed Makame congratulate md and thanked the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) and the American Bar Association (ABA) for organizing the event as it is very important and an avenue for the students to learn more about freedom of expression.

The public lecture focused more on the discussion on the roles of universities in promoting civic empowerment on the area of freedom of expression in Zanzibar. Such a lecture helps to improve more understanding and courage for students to use their freedom of expression in addressing important matters relating with academic matters at the Universities in Zanzibar.
