THRDC ATTENDS A DISABILITY RIGHTS STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT MEETING

Last week on Thursday 8th, the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition had the pleasure of attending a stakeholder engagement meeting on the situation of persons with albinism in Tanzania. The meeting was hosted at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Dar es Salaam, by the office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Tanzania in collaboration with Ms. Muluka Miti-Drummond, the UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of rights by persons with albinism.

From THRDC Ms. Perpetua Senkoro represented the Coalition. The meeting was graced by Ms. Joy Maongezi from the Persons with Disability Unit under the office of the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labor, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities (PMO-LYED), and other stakeholders including Tanzania Albinism Society (TAS), Standing Voice, Ocean Road Cancer Institute, Beyond Inclusion (formerly KCBRP), and Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC), and development partners.

Following recommendations from the 2023 assessment report on the needs and situation of human rights defenders with disabilities (HRDDs) in Tanzania, THRDC is currently commencing a new initiative for HRDDs. To achieve a safe, inclusive, and enabling working environment for HRDDs, the Coalition will continue networking and building stronger partnerships in this thematic area.
