ENHANCING THE CAPACITY AND THE ROLE OF PARLIAMENT IN IMPLEMENTATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS STANDARDS FROM REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS MECHANISM

Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC), in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Legal and Human Rights Center (LHRC) and the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG), has organized a training session for parliamentary committees (MPs) and secretariat.

Taking place today on May 11th and 12th at Nashera Hotel, Dodoma, this initiative focuses on:

* Enhance the role of parliament in implementing human rights standards established by regional and international mechanisms.

* Increase capacity to fully implement recommendations arising from these human rights mechanisms.

* Develop ActionPlan/roadmap of repealing laws related to their committees

* ⁠Deliberating the possibility of establishing Parliamentary Working Group on Human Rights

The event was officially opened by Hon. Pindi Chana, Minister of Constitution and Legal Affairs, and is being attended by Hon. Florent Kyombo, Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitution and Legal Affairs, Dr. Thomas Masanja, commissioner for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG), Mr. Marcel Akpovo, Regional Director of UN Human Rights-East Africa Regional Office, Dr. Anna Henga, Executive Director of LHRC, and Advocate Onesmo Olengurumwa, National Coordinator of THRDC, alongside members of parliamentary committees and CHRAGG
