THRDC to join the opening of the Media Sustainability training jointly organized by WAN-IFRA, MISA-TAN

It was an honor for THRDC to join the opening of the Media Sustainability training jointly organized by WAN-IFRA, MISA-TAN, and THRDC. Shaping the public Agenda "Addressing Media Media Sustainability in Today's Economic Landscape"

50 media managers and editors from across Tanzania, all gathered to engage on pressing challenges facing the media today, including economic constraints, political shifts, digital disruption, and trust deficits.

This training is timely, offering a platform to explore strategies for financial resilience, ethical reporting, digital innovation, and organizational strength. It’s not just about survival it’s about safeguarding media’s role in democracy.

As we approach elections in Tanzania and East Africa, media resilience becomes even more critical. A free, ethical, and well-resourced press is vital for transparency and accountability.

Delivering the opening remarks, the Guest of honor, Mr Onesmo Olengurumwa,  stressed the need for creativity and innovation where he stated “The media industry has a real opportunity to evolve, by embracing technology, fostering creativity, and responding to the modern-day needs of society. In an era dominated by AI deepfakes and misinformation, authentic, fact-checked journalism is more critical than ever.

He urged Mainstream media to lead with innovation and credibility to remain sustainable and relevant. Yet, the current trend of prioritizing flashy headlines over meaningful stories does little to address the core societal challenges we face. He commended the contribution of her excellence President Samia in improving the media landscape, however key challenges still persist.

He noted that, The media must remain fully engaged, vocal, and involved in shaping its future. It's time for the media to stand tall not just as storytellers, but as guardians of truth.
