Nuru Maro
Ms. Nuru S. Maro, is an advocate admitted to the High Court of Tanzania, currently serves as the Protection Officer for Research; Engagement; and Advocacy at the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC), an umbrella organization with 292 member organizations in Tanzania. She is also representing youth in the Global Council of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) advocating for Climate Justice.
Ms. Maro's expertise as a highly skilled and results-driven social scientist with extensive experience in leading and managing technical projects, she excels in providing strategic direction and fostering collaboration among government bodies; regional bodies; human rights monitoring bodies; civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders.
Ms. Maro's dedication is evident in her proven track record of in coordinating Tanzanian CSO’s engagement with a focus on the African Union, the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her strategic leadership ensures effective representation, influencing policies and initiatives at both regional and global levels. She is proficient in navigating diplomatic channels, she plays a pivotal role in advancing Tanzania's interests in human rights, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
She is a recognized resource person for THRDC. Additionally, she serves as a valuable resource person for the Tanzania Gender and Sustainable Network (TANGSEN) on the integration of gender and energy in district development plans. Since 2015, she has been a key resource person for Amref Health Africa's programs addressing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
