About Watetezi TV
Following the recent wave of advancement in Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T), THRDC has recently adopted an I.C.T strategic advocacy approach as a way of implementing THRDC’s new Strategic Plan (2018-2022), under OUTCOME THREE: Advocacy, by establishing an Online Television:
WATETEZI TV to convey its message to relevant government authorities, human rights stakeholders and the general public. As an advocacy strategy for policy and legal reforms of laws and policies governing Tanzania Human rights defenders, this initiative will help create more awareness of HRDs work and easy access to information related to Human Rights Defenders in Tanzania.
As an umbrella organization with more than One Hundred and Fifty (150) member Organizations and individual Journalists across the country (Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar), the THRD-Coalition strives to use its online TV as a platform to ensure maximum publicity on the work done by HRDs from different parts of the United Republic of Tanzania. It should also be noted that THRDC is currently supporting and ensuring the Security & Protection of more than 6,000 human rights defenders in Tanzania.
However, despite THRDC’s commendable efforts to defend human rights defenders and their work, unfortunately, most of its success stories go unnoticed by the public. This is because THRDC had previously underutilized modern communication tools, such as online media platforms, to reach a wider audience.
WATETEZI TV, is, therefore, a non-profit online YouTube platform established in June 2018 by the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) to air programs related to human rights and the specific work done by Human Rights Defenders.
Through WATETEZI TV, the Coalition commits to develop and broadcast online content addressing a broad range of issues related to human rights defenders including journalists, educate and entertain the public about civil discourse essential and relevant to the Tanzanian society.
