THRDC SECURED TZS 277 MILLION GRANT FOR IMPROVING THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND  PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS IN TANZANIA

The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) is delighted to inform its members and the human rights defenders’ community in Tanzania that it has just received a grant amounting to TZS 277 MILLION which is equivalent to USD 120,000 for the period of one year (2020/202) from one of its founding donors and partner Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa ( OSIEA).

OSIEA has been our long time partner and main supporter since 2012 when THRDC was officially registered as the network of human rights defenders in Tanzania.

The main purpose of the grant is to contribute towards improving HRDs’ working environment  for protection and promotion of human rights in Tanzania. Amongst others, the following are some of the activities which will be facilitated by this grant; capacity building and compliance  trainings to human rights defenders, protection support, provision of security gears to HRDs and journalists during election as well as engagement activities with the Government/Judiciary.
