In the second year of implementing five Years Operational Plan (2013-2017), the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) collected 56 per cent of the funds needed for the implementation of the five Years Operational Plan. The Coalition managed to implement almost 80% of the planned activities in 2016, notwithstanding financial and technical constraints.

In the first year of implementing the Three Years Operational Plan, the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) collected 34 per cent of the funds needed for the implementation of the Three Years Operational Plan. The Coalition managed to implement almost 70% of the planned activities in 2015, notwithstanding financial and technical constraints. Amongst others, the funds have been used for the execution of the advocacy activities such as UPR and election programs; for the development of protection mechanism and the protection emergency fund and for the delivery of the security management training. Furthermore, funds have been used for the payment of office rent, office utilities and staff salaries, as well as for the organizational development programs and the development of financial systems.

In 2013, the Coalition conducted a needs assessment survey and managed to identify legal challenges facing HRDs in Tanzania. The current legal framework is comprised of draconian laws and policies which facilitate occurrences of human rights violations and therefore expose HRDs to danger. On the other hand, HRD is a new concept in Tanzania and as such most lawmakers are not aware of it while as some of them willfully neglect to accept the presence of HRDs in the country.
