JOB TITLE:-PROTECTION OFFICER: –PROTECTION PLANNING AND RISK MANAGEMEN ORGANIZATION: TANZANIA HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS COALITIONCLOSING DATE: 23rd JULY, 2021
The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) is a membership organization in Tanzania, with 200organizational members, working towards enhancing the security and protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in Tanzania. THRDC’s long–term goal is to see a free and secured environment for human rights defenders in Tanzania and to ensure HRDs in our country can carry out their essential work free from harm and repression, in accordance with the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders of 1998. The Coalition is currently implementing its five years Strategic Plan 2018–2022which has its focus on promoting the HRDs operation civic space in Tanzania. To realize this goal among other interventions THRDC has capitalized on empowering HRDs on various matters pertaining to their operations in Tanzania. Therefore, THRDC is looking for a competent, ambitious, energetic, self–motivated and result oriented candidate to support the Coalition to spearhead the HRDs empowerment roles in Tanzania.
THRDC is looking for a young, energetic and committed individual for the post ofProtection Officer, Protection Planning and Risk Management. A qualified individual will be required to work under the THRDC Protection Programs in various interventions mainly on capacity building for Human Rights Defenders/Civil Society Organizations in Tanzania.
Degree in Laws(LL. B), an advanced degree in a related field is an added advantage
Human rights specialization
Attended several Human rights training Knowledge on different human rights thematic areas including
Human Rights Defenders and People with Disabilities.
1.2. JOB SKILL SPECIFICATIONS
A minimum of three years of professional experience, ideally with some experience with nonprofits or academic organizations
Excellent communication skills, particularly when dealing with an international, multilingual audience
Ability to handle multiple projects under time and resource pressure
Comprehensive knowledge of human rights and security management
Proven ability to develop strategies related to organizational policies in collaboration with a diverse team
Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of theories, principles and practices of laws as they relate to human rights defenders.
Knowledge of the latest advances in the effective use of Capacity building tools
Develop and maintain strategic networks of people and institutions dealing with the promotion of human rights for advocacy purposes
Develop task orders, and manage part–time, task–specific consultants depending on circumstances and need with knowledge and understanding of various laws of the country
Have a wide knowledge in the field of human rights and human rights defenders
Must be very good in the practice of the Tanzania laws
Possess a good written English
Tolerant of diversity
Principled but flexible
3 years relevant working experience in the field of human rights.
Experience with UN and regional human rights mechanisms.
2 years experience with UN and regional protection mechanisms on human rights defenders.
Knowledgeable in security management training.
