  1. JOB TITLE: ZANZIBAR BRANCH COORDINATOR

    1.0. INTRODUCTION

    ORGANIZATION: TANZANIA HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER COALITION (THRDC) CLOSING DATE: 16th June 2023

    The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) is a membership Organization in Tanzania, with more than 250 organizational members out of which 50 are from Zanzibar (both Unguja and Pemba region) working towards enhancing the security and protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in Zanzibar. THRDC envisions a free and secured working environment for human rights defenders in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, and to ensure HRDs in our country can carry out their essential work free from harm and repression, in accordance with the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders of 1998.

    The Coalition is currently implementing its five years Strategic Plan 2023-2027 which has its focus in ensuring the operational environment for HRDs is safe both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. To realize this goal for the Zanzibar part, THRDC is looking for a competent, ambitious, energetic, self-motivated and result oriented candidate to support the Coalition in materializing its goal.

    1. SPECIFICATIONS

    THRDC is looking for a young, energetic, and committed candidate for the post of Zanzibar Branch Coordinator. A successful candidate will be required to oversee and coordinating all operations in Zanzibar branch.

    1.1 QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    • Degree in Law (LLB), advanced degree in a related field is an added advantage.

    • Leadership and supervision skills

    • Human rights specialization

    • Attended several Human rights training.

    • Knowledge on different human right thematic areas including Human Rights Defenders and People with Disabilities.

    Zanzibar residents will be highly considered.

    1.2 JOB SKILL SPECIFICATIONS

    (i) Key competencies

    • A minimum of five years working experience in a senior managerial position, ideally with some experience with nonprofits organizations

    • Excellent communication skills, particularly when dealing with an international, multilingual audience.

    • Ability to handle multiple projects under time and resource pressure.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of human rights, human rights defenders, and security

      management

    • Proven ability to develop strategies related to organizational policies in collaboration with

      a diverse team.

    • Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of theories, principles, and

      practices of laws as they relate to human rights defenders.

    • Knowledge of the latest advances in effective management and leadership mechanisms.

    • Develop and maintain strategic networks of people and institutions dealing with the

      promotion of human rights for advocacy purposes.

    • Develop task orders and manage task-specific consultants depending on circumstances and

      needs with a knowledge and understanding of various laws of the country.

    • Have excellent experience/ skills in resources mobilization from philanthropic, regional,

      and international organizations/ donors.

    • Must be very good in practice of the Tanzania laws specifically those applies in Zanzibar.

    (iii) Experience requirements

    • 5 years relevant working experience in the field of human rights and managerial positions

    • Experience with UN and Regional human rights mechanisms.

    • 3 years’ experience with UN and regional protection mechanisms on human rights

      defenders.

    • Knowledgeable in security management training.
