HON. ZITTO KABWE (MP) SENTENCED TO CONDITIONAL DISCHARGE FOR SEDITION

Today on 29th May 2020, the Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ Court has delivered a judgment in the case of Hon. Zitto Kabwe (MP) for Kigoma Urban Constituency. The case involves sedition charges for statements he made in relation to extra-judicial killings by police officers in Kigoma [Criminal Case No. 327 of 2018].

The court has convicted Hon. Zitto Kabwe on seditious offence contrary to section 52(1) and 53(1)(b) of the Media Services Act No 12 of 2016. The court ordered that, the offender shall be discharged subject to the condition that, he shall commit no seditious offence during a period of one year from the date hereof and further that, if the offender shall commit seditious offence during the period aforesaid, he will be liable to be sentenced for the offence in respect of which this present Order of Discharge has been made.
