JANE MAGIGITA

She is a lawyer, an activist and leader. A co-founder and Executive Director of Equality for Growth (EfG) a not-for profit and national organization that works to support informal sector workers in Tanzania. My sixteen (16) years of work experience has been to promote women and girls’ rights in Tanzania to access justice. Through her commitment and experience into promoting legal and social justice lead to my deeper understanding of economic deprivation of women, and then initiated a local research in year 2008 in order to assess the plight of women market traders in Tanzania. The findings revealed the high level of vulnerability and marginalization of informal sector women in Tanzania in policy making. EfG which she also served for more than 7 years has a vision to see a market place and economic environment that is free from gender barriers where female informal workers of all levels operate freely on equal footing with men and free from all types of exploitation.

At different capacities she has advocated for women’s rights, legal rights and engaged in community processes aimed to advance rights of different groups particularly marginalised and vulnerable members of the society. She has dedicated her entire life working to promoting and defending human rights in Tanzania. Across various roles, she has been a vocal advocate for women's rights and legal equity, actively engaging in community-driven initiatives to uplift marginalized and vulnerable sectors of society.
