The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders’ Coalition (THRDC) has signed a two-year contract worth $120,000/- equivalent to 277 Million Tanzanian Shillings; with the American Bar Association (ABA) to aid the implementation of a project on defending freedom of expression in Tanzania.

This agreement that was officially signed on 27th January 2020 will largely benefit journalists, lawyers and human rights organizations in the country and has taken effect from 1st February 2020 to 31st July 2021.

While speaking to journalists in his office, the National Coordinator of the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders’ Coalitions (THRDC) Mr. Onesmo Olengurumwa (as a way of expressing transparency and accountability), stated that the project is expected to be implemented through various activities such as research and documentation, litigation and communication among key governmental stakeholders and non-governmental institutions.
