Dr Helen Kijo-Bisimba – BOARD MEMBER

Dr Helen Kijo-Bisimba or simply Mama Bisimba as she is well known with many of her collaborators in the civil society and human rights fraternity is a distinguished human rights activist, defender, and current Executive Director of the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC). She holds a PhD in laws from the University of Warwick, UK, 2012. Prior to that she had attended at the University of Dar es Salaam where she pursued undergraduate studies in laws graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), in 1985 and a Masters of Laws (LLM), in 1994.
Dr Bisimba’s remarkable assistance to the THRDC will remain iconic in so many ways; first it is the fact that she allowed her organization to host the Coalition and even its staffs to spend most of their time for this new organization. This culminated even in releasing one of most promising researchers Mr Onsemo Olengurumwa, that the LHRC had invested a lot to become the first coordinator of the THRDC.
Her contributions remains monumental both financially, technically and in many other forms of organizational support as managerial maturity for nascent organizations always entails some guidance and mentorship. A mother of four, she remains a parent and teacher to many of her acquaintances, in the human rights regime and in many other pursuits.
She has been part and parcel of the making in many organizations as a board member, a researcher, editor and publisher. This is not to forget her contribution in the search of gender equity, and as a dependable consultant to many professional bodies.
